Growing up I became obsessed with the last scene in Grease. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You know the part where Olivia Newton John comes out wearing that killer off the shoulder bodysuit just exuding coolness. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Of course now I look at that movie and question why the point was that she has to change for him to notice her... but that’s not the point here. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The point is that I was drawn to her confidence. The way she carried herself and how her clothes helped her feel that way. Also... the music is so damn catchy! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I think about how I’ve always been more into that feeling that Sandy exemplifies more than anything else. How can I feel this way all the time? How can I help others feel this way? ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’ve kind of made it my life’s mission. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you wanna feel like Sandy every time you leave the house stick with me, girl.⁣

I never used to consider myself to be a "loud person" until I moved out of New York. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
No JOKE... I never thought I was shy, but I also didn't think I was the loudest in the room. That is, until I moved to California. ⁣⁣⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Something about the laid back vibe made me feel at ease and like a fish out of water at the exact same time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That being said, it wasn't good or bad.... I just never had to think about it before. ⁣⁣⁣

All of a sudden I was coming home from hanging out with friends thinking...⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
"Was I too loud?"⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
"Did I talk too much?" ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
These insecurities snuck up on me and honestly, kind of threw me for a loop. I'm not saying that all New Yorkers are loud, but for me, it was just more common. Ha! Maybe we are just yelling over the hustle and bustle of the city? ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
One day I came home with that same sinking feeling like I was just "too much". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And that's when I had enough. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
NO ONE had ever said to me "Mel, you are too loud." I had just DECIDED that. So I decided something different. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I realized that I needed to be exactly who I was, loud, fun, passionate, honest, friendly Mel. Being confident in that was truly the only way for me to be. So why fight it?⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Once I embraced the "louder" part of my personality, it started to come out in my style as well. I started wearing clothes with bold colors more. I would experiment with pairing different patterns. I would play with different silhouettes. I found that when I did this I felt more aligned with who I truly was. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣
Honing in on your personal style takes time, and has a lot more to do with knowing who you are as a person. This evolves and changes the same that fashion and trends change. ⁣⁣⁣

Don’t ever feel like you have to be or do anything for anyone but yourself. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
True happiness and confidence isn’t going to come from someone else’s opinions about you, promise!⁣⁣⁣

What’s something that makes you feel just a little more YOU?

You have been hearing me talk a LOT lately about the importance of feeling confident and joyful when you get dressed, and what that can do for your life. ⁣⁣

I have been known to talk endlessly about things I'm passionate about and confidence is one of them. ⁣⁣⁣

When I first started cleaning out women's closets with them, I could see the frustration and stress on their faces the moment they walked into their closet. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The legit overwhelm was palpable and I knew I had to help as many women as possible. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I saw that women needed a realistic, fun, and gently guided way to clean out their closets. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
So I got cracking! My goal was to create something that would eliminate pressure, stress and negativity around the task of cleaning out your closet. ⁣⁣⁣

I worked on The Confident Closet Course on vacations in Mexico, Sonoma, LA, San Diego, Massachusetts, Vegas and New York.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣ I worked on it during my kids nap times and after my husband went to sleep. Every free moment I had, I spent creating this for you because THAT is how much I believe in it. ⁣⁣

It was 2015 and I was about to launch my online course The Confident Closet for the first time. I wanted to celebrate the accomplishment but more importantly, I wanted to remind everyone of three things. ⁣⁣⁣

1. You can clean out your closet and you can have FUN with the process. It can be a party with literal balloons. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2. Not to take your day too seriously. Find beauty in everything and don’t forget to celebrate. ⁣⁣⁣

3. I’m here to bring joy, style, and a little pep to your step whenever I can. ⁣⁣⁣

What I didn’t tell anyone back then was that I was 14 weeks pregnant (in this picture ) with my second baby and I’m pretty sure that was the last time I wore heels for at least a year. 😂 ⁣⁣⁣

When I look back, I’m so proud of the evolution of my business. So much has grown and changed. But also so much is still consistent. I’m here to share my knowledge, my love of style, and to remind you to have fun with it. I’ve been growing this business since 2012 and I really love every second of the evolution and the process. ⁣⁣⁣
