The Art of Playing With Your Style
When was the last time you played around with your style?
How about with your hair?
How you tied your scarves?
How you mix prints and textures?
How you accessorized?
When was the last time you felt insecure about something and then you went out and learned the thing MORE instead of shying away from it (due to said insecurity)?
I bet it’s been awhile. So often we get into the habit of saying things like:
“I don’t have the time.”
“I don’t know how to curl my hair. I’m just not good at it.”
“I am not great at putting outfits together. I’m not stylish.”
“I don’t know how to accessorize.”
These are just stories. Stories we tell ourselves so we don’t have to learn the thing that intimidates us. I know that’s harsh, but this one mindset shift can change so much for you. And if you TRULY want to make a change, you have to step outside your comfort zone and learn.
I always say, “knowledge breeds confidence” but I thought today I could break this down a bit more. Really get to the depths of WHY this is so important.
Let’s say every morning you get dressed and you don’t feel like you know how to put together an outfit. Every single morning the dialogue you have with yourself ends with “I guess this is good enough.” How is that setting you up for success?
The answer is simple. It’s not. It’s adding stress and confusion every single morning. If you’ve decided that you just “aren’t stylish” chances are have let that be a part of your identity. But I have got to be a little tough love here and say… it’s not helping you. If you are trying to be the best version of yourself, the one who shows up for themselves every single day. That person takes time and care when they get ready, and that person loves themselves in the process.
Which brings me to what you can do to change this negative story you’ve been telling yourself. You can PLAY! That’s right! What would 15 minutes a day focused on learning more about your own unique style do for you?
This mindset shift can add so much more FUN to getting ready. The idea of playing with your style and giving yourself the freedom to experiment is such a game changer!
How much more confident would you feel when you left the house every morning if you felt like your clothes were elevating you, representing you, and not bringing you down? Playing around in your closet allows you to have the freedom to be creative and learn a skill that will help you. But really, it’s so much more than just playing around. It’s taking the time to learn a new skill. It’s taking steps toward gaining the confidence you crave and DESERVE.
So, are you ready to play this week with your style? I can’t wait to hear what this one act does for your confidence and your style.
